2/26/2008: Fake Account Verification Message from "Bruin Online"

It has been reported to UCLA's abuse team that an email has been distributed from "Bruin Online ". If you received this, please IGNORE it and immediately DELETE the email. This is an account phishing attempt. The body of the message is similar to the following:


*VERIFY YOUR BOL ACCOUNT NOW-*

*Dear BOL account user,*

*This message is from UCLA messaging center to all UCLA BOL account users. We are currently upgrading our server data base and e-mail account center. We are terminating all inactive UCLA BOL accounts to create more space for new accounts and for our latest server upgrade. To prevent your account from closing you will have to update it below so that we know that it is an account that is currently still active.*

*CONFIRM YOUR EMAIL INFORMATION BELOW
EMAIL Username : ...............
EMAIL Password : ..............
Date of Birth : .................
9-Digit UCLA ID Number .............. *

*(YOU CAN FIND THIS NUMBER ON...)*

*** **On your online or paper letter of admission (new students) *

*** **On your BruinCard (current students, alumni, faculty, staff) *

*** **On your UCLA transcript (current students, alumni) *

*** **On your paycheck stub or online earnings statement (faculty, staff) *

Viruses and phishing attempts such as this are usually easy to spot by the fact that it is requesting your account information (username and password), birth date, and University ID Number (UID). Please be aware that Bruin OnLine staff will never request your password at any time.
