1/17/2008: Fake Account Verification Message from UCLA Team

If you receive an email that appears to originate from "UCLA Team" <uclateam@bellsouth.net> please IGNORE and DELETE this email. This is an account phishing attempt. The body of the message is similar to the following:

Subject: VERIFY YOUR UCLA EMAIL ACCOUNT NOW

VERIFY YOUR UCLA EMAIL ACCOUNT NOW

Dear UCLA Email Account Owner,

This message is from UCLA messaging center to all UCLA email account owners. We are currently upgrading our data base and e-mail account center. We are deleting all unused UCLA email account to create more space for new accounts.

To prevent your account from closing you will have to update it below so that we will know that it's a present used account.

CONFIRM YOUR EMAIL IDENTITY BELOW

EMAIL Password : ................
Date of Birth : .................
Country or Territory : ..........

Warning!!! Account owner that refuses to update his or her account within Seven days of receiving this warning will lose his or her account permanently.

Once again, the above email does NOT originate from BOL or any other campus entity. Viruses and phishing attempts such as this are usually easy to spot by the improper use of English and by the overall generic nature of the salutation, closing, and signature.
