01/31/2001: News Server upgrade and transition

On Monday, February 5, 2001, CTS will begin hosting the news services currently provided by the Library Information Systems Group via news.ucla.edu.

The transition of this service to CTS will allow UCLA to carry a larger newsfeed (adding more than 27,000 new newsgroups), retain text groups for a longer period of time, and allow off-campus users who have a Bruin OnLine (BOL) username and password to connect to the news server.

If you are currently using the news service, you will notice some changes with connections to news.ucla.edu after 12:00 AM on February 5, 2001. To find out how this will affect your news reading capabilities with Internet Explorer or Netscape Communicator, please consult the links below:

If you are connecting to the news server for the first time, you must configure your news client to connect to news.ucla.edu as illustrated by the instructions below:
