Jeremy S. is the winner of the 2005 Pac-10 Hoop-Pundits Pool. Jeremy, who finished 71st last year, is a life-long UCLA fan raised in Anaheim, CA now living in Oregon. It was his accurate predictions of Bruin games that helped him win this year's contest. He had the highest point totals for UCLA games (as well as Washington games) of all the contestants (see below).

His contest strategy: My strategy was nothing more than pure speculation. Arizona and UW were easy enough picks for the top and a congested field in the mid-lower tiers was predictable. I think I gained some ground projecting that Stanford would prove better than their non-conference record implied. The one mistake I made was projecting Oregon to finish around 3rd or 4th, but I think that bug bit most of us. Like most entrants, I think I know this conference pretty well. This year I was just a little luckier than everyone else.

CONTEST FACTS AND FIGURES:

Bill Preston Jr and Richard Lee had the most Conference Leader questions correct with seven. To see how our picks compared with the actual category winners, denoted with a (*), go to Summary of Picks (down the page). The toughest category turned out to be 10th place team, with only 10 picks for USC and the easiest was most retro team where 80 had Stanford coming down the furthest from its 17-1 conference record last season.

Standings for the games of each team (leader):

  • ARIZONA (Ryan F)
  • ARIZONA ST (Richard Brisacher)
  • UCLA (Jeremy S)
  • USC (Adam Lynch)
  • CALIFORNIA (Wes Tanac)
  • STANFORD (HOME10)
  • OREGON (Michael Loop)
  • OREGON ST (Kev Hayashida)
  • WASHINGTON (Jeremy S)
  • WASHINGTON ST (John Dmohowski)

Adam Lynch picked the winner of 17/18 USC games. He had 24% of all his points just from Trojan games. Michael Loop had 25% of his points just from Oregon games. Picking the home team by 10 in every Stanford game would have given you the highest scores for all of their games. Arizona, Washington and Oregon St seemed to be the most predictable teams; Arizona St and Stanford the least predictable. Pope (5-12 for Stanford games) and Mike B (6-12 for USC games) had the worst records for a single team.
