Outlook Express Configuration
BEFORE YOU START
It is important that you read these instructions carefully: if your email client is not properly configured you will not be able to send, and in some cases receive, emails.
SMTP Server Settings: Please verify your outgoing (SMTP) server settings before you attempt to reconfigure your email client. You only need to reconfigure your outgoing mail server if it is mail.ucla.edu.
If you use another Internet Service Provider to get on the intertnet, you may be using their SMTP server to send mail. If that is the case, do not change the SMTP server information.
Anti-Virus and E-Mail Scanning: Many Anti-Virus software vendors have a feature that scans all outgoing emails. This feature is not compatible with SSL authentication. You must disable outgoing email scanning or else you will not be able to send emails. Please be sure this is disabled.
Please note that Bruin OnLine only provides support for Sophos Anti-Virus: you will have to contact your software vendor or check their website directly if you are unable to make these configuration changes. We have included a link to Symantec below for your convenience.

NOTE: These instructions are the same whether you choose to use POP or IMAP. BOL HIGHLY recommends that you setup your account to use IMAP.
- Launch Outlook Express, click on Tools > Accounts > Add > Mail.

- Enter the name you would like Outlook Express to display on your account in the Display Name field and click Next.
- Enter the e-mail address you would like Outlook Express to display in your outgoing messages in the E-mail address field and click Next.

- Select IMAP from the drop-down menu and enter in mail.ucla.edu as both your Incoming and Outgoing mail server and click Next.

- Enter your UCLA Logon ID in the Account name field and click Next.

- Click Finish on the next screen.
- You should now see a new account listed. Select this account and click on Properties.

- Click on the Servers tab and check the box that says My server requires authentication and click Apply.

- Click on the Advanced tab and check the boxes that say This server requires a secure connection (SSL) and click Apply and then OK.

You have now successfully setup Outlook Express to check your BOL e-mail address.
