Installing Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows 9x
Before you begin, please make sure that you have already uninstalled any previous anti-virus program (such as Norton Anti-Virus, McAfee Virus Scan, etc.) from your computer.
- Please ensure that you have downloaded the SophosInstaller9x.exe installation file to your desktop.
- To start the installer, please double-click on the SophosInstaller9x.exe icon on the desktop.
- This installs the Sophos Installer which will place the necessary files on your computer.

- Please note that once the Installer starts the only indication you will get that the client is properly installing and upgrading is the flashing icon in the system tray, located in the lower right corner of your monitor. It may take up to a minute for the icon to appear in the system tray.

- After you have sucessfully installed Sophos, you will have to restart your computer. You should have an icon in your system tray that looks like this:

Sophos will begin a full scan of your system. Please be patient as this may take several minutes.

NOTE: If you see the Sophos shield icon with a red circle on top of it
or the icon is grey, your installation was not successful. Please make sure that you are connected to the Internet and try to update the application again by right-clicking the icon and selecting Update Now. - After successfully installing the Sophos client, users that have upgraded from a previous version may have an additional Sophos Anti-Virus folder in their Start menu. This empty folder may be removed from the Start menu by simply dragging it to the Recycle Bin.
If you have any problems with Sophos installation, configuration, or updating, please contact the BOL Help Desk at (310) 267-HELP (4357), option 1, or by emailing consult@ucla.edu.
