Installing/Configuring FreePPP
Installing FreePPP 2.6.2
- Double click on the FreePPP v2.6.2 Installer folder on your desktop.
- Double click on the Install FreePPP 2.6.2 icon located inside that folder.
- You will see the installation splash screen.
- On the next screen click the Next button
- On the following window click next again.
- Select the destination directory and click the Next button
- When asked to close the other applications click OK.
- A progress bar will appear and determine the progress of your installation.
- Once the installation has completed click on the Next button.
- At the confirmation window click Next.
- At the completion window click Next.
- When asked to restart, click on the Restart button.
Configuring FreePPP 2.6.2
- After FreePPP has been installed, go to the FreePPP Menu (top right
hand corner of your desktop) and select Open FreePPP Setup...
- Bring down the menu in the Connect To: box and select New Account.
- Enter in your UCLA Logon ID into the Username entry box
and enter your password into the Password entry box.
- Click on the Dialup Tab and enter in the Bruin OnLine phone number
and area code in the correct entry boxes. When finished click OK.
- Click on the Locations Tab and double click on the Home location.
Here, enter in you local area code and any other dial preferences you
may need to specify. When you have finished click OK.
- Click on the Modems Tab and Click on the Edit... button.
- Click on the AutoDetect init string button and select the proper
port speed and the correct port. Then click OK.
- Once you completed all the previous steps you can click Connect
or click on Open PPP Connection from the PPP Menu.
- For first time use, go to the Apple Menu and choose
Control Panels. Open TCP/IP. In the Name server addr.
field, enter the following:
- 164.67.128.1
- 164.67.128.2
- 164.67.128.3
- ucla.edu
FreePPP will inform you if these settings are incorrect.
