Entourage 2004 Configuration

These instructions will guide you through the configuration of Entourage 2004.

BEFORE YOU START

It is important that you read these instructions carefully: if your email client is not properly configured you will not be able to send, and in some cases receive, emails.

SMTP Server Settings: Please verify your outgoing (SMTP) server settings before you attempt to reconfigure your email client. You only need to reconfigure your outgoing mail server if it is mail.ucla.edu.

If you use another Internet Service Provider to get on the intetnet, you may be using their SMTP server to send mail. If that is the case, do not change the SMTP server information.

Anti-Virus and E-Mail Scanning: Many Anti-Virus software vendors have a feature that scans all outgoing emails. This feature is not compatible with SSL authentication. You must disable outgoing email scanning or else you will not be able to send emails. Please be sure this is disabled.

Please note that Bruin OnLine only provides support for Sophos Anti-Virus: you will have to contact your software vendor or check their website directly if you are unable to make these configuration changes.

NOTE: These instructions are the same whether you choose to use POP or IMAP. BOL HIGHLY recommends that you setup your account to use IMAP. In some instances Entourage 2004 will not support SMTP using SSL: Microsoft recommends downloading Service Pack 1 for Office 2004. Please see the Microsoft Office for Mac Service Pack 1 page for more information.

  1. From the menu bar, select Tools > Accounts.

  2. From the Accounts window, click on New.
  3. In the New Account window, select IMAP for account type and click OK.
  4. In the Edit Account window, fill in all the fields with the appropriate information. For Account ID, you should enter your UCLA Logon ID. For IMAP server and SMTP server, you should enter mail.ucla.edu.

Under Receiving Mail, click Click here for advanced receiving options and check the box that says This IMAP service requires a secure connection (SSL).

Under Sending Mail, click Click here for advanced sending options and check the boxes that say SMTP service requires secure connection (SSL) and SMTP server requires authentication.

  5. Click OK.

You have successfully configured Entourage 2004 to check your BOL e-mail account.

Creating an LDAP directory using Entourage 2004

To configure Entourage 2004 to access the UCLA directory, please do the following:

  1. Start Entourage.
  2. Click the Tools menu and select Accounts.
  3. Click New and choose Directory Service.
  4. In the LDAP server field, type ldap.ucla.edu
  5. Click the Options tab.
  6. In the Search base field, type ou=person,dc=ldap,dc=ucla,dc=edu
  7. Click OK
  8. Close the Accounts window.

Please note that Entourage will not find your recipient automatically after you enter the name (can be partial) in the To: line in the new mail message composer window. You have to trigger search by presing the Check Names icon on the tool bar of the new mail message window.
