Configuring Internet Explorer for the BOL Proxy Server

IMPORTANT: You must have at l eastService Pack 1 (SP1) installed on versions 5.01 or 5.5 of Internet Explorer to access the Bruin OnLine Proxy Server. To find out which version you have, click Help, then About Internet Explorer. Updates to Internet Explorer can be obtained from here.

The following instructions will configure Internet Explorer (versions 5 and 6)andUCLA proxy server. This will allow you to access UCLA restricted sites and the UCLA news server while connecting through another ISP.

Configuring Internet Explorer 5 and 6

  1. Click on the Start Menu and choose Settings. Select Control Panel.
  2. Double click on Internet Options.
  3. Click on the Connections tab. Click on the LAN Settings button on the bottom-right corner of the window.

  5. Check Use automatic configuration script. In the Address field, type in http://proxy.ucla.edu/cgi/proxy and click OK.

    Repeat step 3-4 for any other dial-up ISP configurations you might have.

When you access a UCLA restricted site, a secure page will ask you to enter your UCLA Logon ID and password before proceeding to the site.
