Configuring Netscape for the BOL Proxy Server

IMPORTANT: The minimum version of Netscape required to access the BOL Proxy Server is Netscape 4.0.
  1. Open up Netscape Communicator and go to Edit/Preferences. Click on the + next to Advanced and click on Proxies (on the left).

  2. On the right frame, select Automatic proxy configuration.
  3. In the field Configuration location (URL): type http://proxy.ucla.edu/cgi/proxy
  4. Click on the OK button.

When you access a UCLA restricted site, a secure page will ask you to enter your UCLA Logon ID and password before proceeding to the site.

Configuring the UCLA Proxy Server for News

  1. Open up Netscape Communicator and go to File and select Preferences. Click on the + next to Mail & Groups and click on Newsgroup Servers. If an entry for news.ucla.edu already exists, please skip to step 2. Otherwise, click on Add.
  2. In the Server field, type news.ucla.edu. Select Always ask me for user name and password and click on OK, then click on OK once more.

When you access the UCLA News Server, enter your BOL username and password to gain access to the news server.
