Network Access

Bruin OnLine provides eligible users with access to UCLA's network infrastructure, including wireless, VPN, proxy server, and dial-up access.

Wireless

  • Coverage across campus, including Ackerman Union, Kerckhoff Hall and many library locations
  • Optional portal sign-on, no VPN required
  • 802.11b-compliant card required
  • SSID/Network name is UCLAWLAN

Guest Access

  • Guests with a UCLA "sponsor" may request a temporary network logon ID.
  • UCLA faculty and staff with a valid BOL account may request temporary guest network logon IDs for their guests.
  • UCLA faculty and staff with a valid BOL account may request guest network logon IDs in bulk (10, 25, 50, 100).

Proxy Server

  • Provides off-campus users with access to restricted resources, such as library content
  • Easy browser set-up, no additional software necessary
  • Support for most Windows and Mac browsers

Virtual Private Network

  • Provides users with campus IP address for access to restricted resources
  • Offers secure campus network connections
  • Support for built-in client within Windows
  • Client software available for Windows and Mac

Dial-Up Service

  • Free of charge (phone company may charge toll)
  • Capacity for over 1,800 concurrent users
  • Support for V.90 and V.34 protocols
  • Four hour session limit, 20 minute idle timeout
