What is Server-side filtering?
Server-side filtering allows you to apply filtering rules on your mailbox on the server. You will need to enable IMAP if you are filtering to specific subfolders in your account.

My Inbox only has a few messages, but when I check my
quota, it says I am exceeding my 150MB limit. What is the problem?
When you set up IMAP, and Server-side filtering. You may have filtered your mail to other subfolders. Those subfolder count against your 150MB quota, including the Trash folder. Make sure you purge all of the trash contents frequently.

How come I don't have folders to filter to?
You have to set up folders on Webmail first. Instructions to do so are at: http://www.bol.ucla.edu/services/webmail/docs/folders.html/.
-
If I set up a filter to discard mail, can I retrieve it?
Unfortunately not. If you set a filter to discard mail, it is deleted from the servers permanently. We urge users to filter to a folder, and review the folder before deleting it.
-
Can I block senders?
Yes, you can set up a filter with the Condition From: to be the sender you want to block. Under Action, select Discard the message. Please note that discarding the message deletes the mail from the server immediately. This action cannot be reversed.

Advanced Vacation Notification/ Auto-reply.
If you have an alternate email address that is forwarding to your BOL account, you can enable the same vacation notification for that account as well. If you list this alternative email address in addition to your BOL email under Address: , and someone emails you at the alternate email address, they will receive the same vacation notification as your BOL account.
