SSL Configuration - Outlook Express

NOTE: The instructions below apply identically for both IMAP and POP settings.

  1. In the Outlook Express, click on Tools then Accounts.

  2. Select the account name that corresponds to your BOL account and click Properties.
  3. Click the Servers tab and take note of the information filled out in the Outgoing mail (SMTP) field. Yours may differ from what appears in the screenshot below.

  4. Click on the Advanced tab. Under the Incoming mail field, check the box that says This server requires a secure connection (SSL). If you are using IMAP, your numbers may differ from the ones in the screenshot below.
  5. NOTE: If the Outgoing mail server information you took note of in the Servers tab is something other than mail.ucla.edu, you are FINISHED.

  6. If your outgoing mail server is mail.ucla.edu, check the box that says This server requires a secure connection (SSL) under the Outgoing mail (SMTP) field.

  • You will be required to authenticate with your UCLA Logon ID and password before sending email using your BOL profile.
