SSL Configuration - Outlook

NOTE: The instructions below apply identically for both IMAP and POP settings.

  1. In Outlook, click on Tools then Email Accounts.

  2. Select View or change existing email accounts and click Next.
  3. Click the email account that corresponds to your BOL account and click Change or Properties.

  4. Take note of the information filled out in the Outgoing mail server (SMTP) field, but do not change it. Click the More Settings button.
  5. Click on the Advanced tab. Under the Incoming mail field, check the box that says This server requires a secure connection (SSL). If you are using IMAP, your numbers may differ from the ones in the screenshot below.
  6. NOTE: If the Outgoing mail server information you took note of in the Internet Email Settings window is something other than mail.ucla.edu, you are FINISHED. Click OK, then click Next, then click Finish.

  7. If your outgoing mail server is mail.ucla.edu, check the box that says This server requires a secure connection (SSL) under the Outgoing mail (SMTP) field. Click OK, then click Next, then click Finish. You are finished.

  • You will be required to authenticate with your UCLA Logon ID and password before sending email using your BOL profile.
