BOL Secure Authentication - Software Requirements
On November 30th, 2004 Bruin OnLine announced that encrypted authentication would be required for Mail, FTP, and news (NNTP) servers (link here).
Beginning at 12:00am, Wednesday, January 12th, 2005, the Bruin OnLine news (NNTP) and mail servers will begin requiring encrypted authentication. The following BOL-supported applications will need to be reconfigured in order to work properly after those dates
Windows:- Mozilla Mail & News (1.7.3 or greater recommended)
- Netscape Mail & News (6.23 minimum; 7.1 or greater recommended)
- Outlook Express Mail & News (6.0 SP1 recommended)
- Eudora Pro (5.2.1 minimum; 6.1 or greater recommended)
- Outlook 2000+
- Mozilla Mail & News (1.7.3 or greater recommended)
- Eudora (5.2.1 minimum; 6.1.1 or greater recommended)
- Netscape Mail & News (6.23 minimum; 7.1 or greater recommended)
- Entourage (comes with Microsoft Office X)
- Mac Mail (comes with Mac OS X)
- Eudora 6.1.1
- Netscape 6.23 Mail & News
NOTE: If you are using OS 8.6 or earlier, you will have to use webmail: https://mail.ucla.edu/
FTP
The FTP servers began requiring encrypted authentication at 12:00am, Wednesday, December 15th.
Bruin OnLine currently only supports CuteFTP. If you are using another FTP client, you will have to contact that software vendor for support.

NOTE: There is no SSL FTP client for Mac OS 9 and earlier.

NOTE: If you do not use the email clients listed above, you will have to use webmail. These are the only SSL email clients Bruin OnLine supports.
