BOL Secure Authentication - Software Configuration

BEFORE YOU START

It is important that you read these instructions carefully: if your email client is not properly configured you will not be able to send, and in some cases receive, emails.

Please note that you webmail is not impacted by the SSL Authentication upgrade. If you are having problems configuring your email client, you can use webmail at https://mail.ucla.edu/ to ensure that you are still able to send and receive emails while resolving any email client configuration issues you might be having.

SMTP Server Settings: Please verify your outgoing (SMTP) server settings before you attempt to reconfigure your email client. You only need to reconfigure your outgoing mail server if it is mail.ucla.edu.

If you use another Internet Service Provider to get on the internet, you may be using their SMTP server to send mail. If that is the case, do not change the SMTP server information.

Anti-Virus Software and E-Mail Scanning: Many Anti-Virus software vendors have a feature that scans all outgoing emails. These feature is not compatible with SSL authentication. You must disable outgoing email scanning or else you will not be able to send emails. Please be sure this is disabled.

Please note that Bruin OnLine only provides support for Sophos Anti-Virus: you will have to contact your software vendor or check their website directly if you are unable to make these configuration changes. We have included a link to Symantec below for your convenience.

Minimum Software Requirements: You must have the proper software installed in order to use SSL authentication. Please see the Software Requirements page for more information.

Please click on the link below for configuration instructions for your email client.

Windows: For Macintosh OS X: For Macintosh Classic (OS 9 minimum):

NOTE: If you are using OS 8.6 or earlier, you will have to use webmail: https://mail.ucla.edu/

NOTE: If you do not use the email clients listed above, you will have to use webmail. These are the only SSL email clients Bruin OnLine supports.

If you are unable to configure your account, please fill out a SSL Configuration Help Form. In the meantime, you can access your email account at https://mail.ucla.edu. We will respond to all requests as quickly as possible, but due to the volume of requests may take some time.

Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
