Automatic configuration of BOL dialup profiles

This document explains how to create a Dial-Up Profile for Bruin OnLine. You should follow these instructions even if you have a previous working version of Bruin OnLine. This component is necessary for network connectivity; you must still have other client software (such as Eudora, Netscape, etc.) to use this connection.

Please close any programs that might be running on the system before you install the profiles because you may need to restart your computer during this installation.

Creating a dial-up profile: Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000

  1. Double click on the isetup.exe icon which represents the file you downloaded.
  2. The installer will search for the necessary connection components for using Dial-up Networking with Bruin OnLine. This window will automatically disappear when it is done with the system check. If any of the components were not found, please click on the necessary link(s) below:
    • Modem
    • For the other three components (Dial-up Adapter, TCP/IP, Dial-up Networking), this profile creation program will automatically install the necessary components. NOTE: you may need to insert your Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000 CD or disks.

    NOTE: if any of these components had to be installed, your computer will automatically restart after the system check is completed.

  3. After the system check is complete a window will pop up asking for account information.
    Note: if any of the components in the previous step needed to be installed, then this window will appear after your computer restarts.
    Please enter the following information:
    • In the Login name: field, please insert your UCLA Logon ID. (your UCLA Logon ID is the first part of your email address, everything before the "@ucla.edu")
    • In the Password: field, please insert your Password.
    • In the Real Name: field, please insert your Full Name.

    After typing in your personal information, click on OK.

  4. The next window will tell you that the profile was created and that a shortcut will be placed on your desktop. Click on OK.

  5. Next, the "Connect To" window of the newly created profile should open automatically. Verify that the Username and Password fields are filled in and make sure that you have a phone line plugged into your modem and then click on Connect to test the connection.

  6. If you wish to install any of the other profiles, please repeat these instructions from step 1.
