Email Alias

BOL email account holders may create one permanent alternate email address, known as an alias, which will forward to their regular BOL email account.

Once created, email aliases cannot be changed and will only function as an email address. An alias cannot be used for authentication purposes (logging on to services such as dialup, email, proxy servers, etc.). Incoming email messages to either your email address or your alias, if created, will be delivered to the same account.

If you would like to use your alias as your primary email address, you should update your email client as shown below.

Windows: For Macintosh OS X:

  1. From the Window menu, select Mail & Newsgroups.
  2. Go to the Edit menu and select Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings ...
  3. In the Email Address field, type your email alias (for example, "Joe.Bruin@ucla.edu").
  4. Select the OK button.











Eudora

  1. From the Tools menu, select Options.
  2. Select Getting Started from the menu items in the left window.
  3. In the Email Address field, type your email alias (for example, "Joe.Bruin@ucla.edu").
  4. Select the OK button.











Thunderbird

  1. From the Tools menu, select Account Settings.
  2. Select the account from the left window.
  3. In the Email Address field, type your email alias (for example, "Joe.Bruin@ucla.edu").
  4. Select the OK button.











Outlook

  1. From the Tools menu, select Email Accounts.
  2. Select View or Change Existing Accounts. Select the Next button.
  3. Select your e-mail account from the list (for example,'mail.ucla.edu').
  4. In the Email Address field, type your email alias (for example, "Joe.Bruin@ucla.edu"). Select the Next button.
  5. Select the Finish button.











Outlook Express

  1. From the Tools menu, select Accounts....
  2. Select your e-mail account from the list (for example,'mail.ucla.edu').
  3. In the Email Address field, type your email alias (for example, "Joe.Bruin@ucla.edu"). Select the Next button.
  4. Select the OK button.












Macintosh OSX

Mozilla

  1. From the Window menu, select Mail & Newsgroups.
  2. Go to the Edit menu and select Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings ...
  3. In the Email Address field, type your email alias (for example, "Joe.Bruin@ucla.edu").
  4. Select the OK button.











Eudora

  1. From the Eudora menu, select Preferences....
  2. Select Getting Started from the menu items in the left window.
  3. In the Email Address field, type your email alias (for example, "Joe.Bruin@ucla.edu").
  4. Select the OK button.











Thunderbird

  1. From the Tools menu, select Account Settings.
  2. Select the account from the left window.
  3. In the Email Address field, type your email alias (for example, "Joe.Bruin@ucla.edu").
  4. Select the OK button.











Mail.app

  1. From the Mail menu select Preferences.
  2. Under Account Information, type your email alias in the Email Address field.
  3. Close the window. When prompted to Save Changes, select Save.
