10/16/97: Ongoing Mail Problems

Hello,

Due to an excessively high load placed on the mail server early yesterday by the mass delivery of between 60 and 100 thousand copies of a campus administrative related piece of email, a large portion of the incoming mail has been held in a special processing queue.

All mail originating after 10 PM last night (10/15) has been processed and delivered to it's intended recipient. Currently, the mail server is processing mail in "real-time" and is delivering at near normal speeds. Mail originating prior to 10 PM last night (10/15) is being processed as time permits. Based on current estimates, it may take between 12 and 24 hours for delivery to complete.
