12/17/96: Bruin OnLine Systems Downtime Scheduled for Wednesday Morning, 12/18/96
Date: Mon, 16 Dec 1996 15:41:15 -0800 From: Chris Thomas <CThomas@ucla.edu> Subject: Ben2 outage Wednesday am The ben2 (email and Orion access) systems will be unavailable Wednesday from 6am until 7:30 or 8:00am. We will be installing a new version of sendmail. Sendmail is the primary software for both sending mail and for receiving incoming mail and writing it into users' mailboxes. Between now and the end of December we will be doing a large amount of software and hardware installation work on the ben2 system. There will be service outages on several days during the period. We will do our best to confine the outages to the 6am-8am time period that is reserved for systems work. I apologize in advance to those of you who need to use the system during this time. The second half of December is our lowest usage period of the entire year, and it makes sense to schedule necessary outages then.
Please note that there should be no loss of email during this time. Incoming messages will be queued and delivered when the system is back up.
