Incompatibilities between Apple's OT and BOL
The following letter will be distributed to purchasers of new Macintoshes at the ASUCLA Computer Store starting 08/11/95.
To: Purchasers of Apple PowerMac Models 9500, 7200, 7500, and 8500
From: Don Worth, Bruin OnLine Project Leader
Subject: Incompatibilities between Apple's Open Transport Software and Bruin OnLine
It has come to our attention that an incompatibility exists between Bruin OnLine's email client, Eudora, and Apple's Open Transport, the new underlying network driver software which is installed on all new PowerMac models, indicated above. The problem occurs when using Eudora over a PPP or SLIP dial-up connection on an Open Transport machine. Eudora is unable to send outgoing email messages.
This problem does not affect the new PowerMacs when they are used on a Local Area Network and does not affect other Apple Macintosh models which use MacTCP rather than Open Transport. The problem has been brought to the attention of Apple, and Qualcomm (makers of Eudora), and Hyde Park Software (makers of MacSLIP). These vendors are working together toward a solution.
For now, however, if you are buying one of the new machines and wish to use Bruin OnLine email services, please be aware that they are not functional on Open Transport PowerMacs over dial-up SLIP/PPP connections. When we receive a patch or software replacement from these vendors, we will make it available both online and at the Computer Store.
