1/24/2007: Sophos Update Server Maintenance on 1/25/07 UPDATE

1/25, 12:45pm: The latest update provided by Sophos forces all clients to upgrade to the newest version of Sophos, version 6.5.2. This upgrade is rather large, leading to longer than normal download times. This increased download time results in longer client connection sessions, which in turn can result in failed connection attempts for other clients. Over the course of the day and into tomorrow, as more and more clients receive the upgrade update, fewer and fewer clients will experience the Could not contact server error.

Once all clients have received the latest update, they should be running version 6.5.2. Bruin OnLine will release an installer for version 6.5.2 for all supported operating systems in the next couple of days. This version will support Microsoft Vista, in addition to Windows 2003/XP/2000. The Windows 9x/ME and NT version will remain at 4.6.x. The Macintosh OS X version is still 4.8.

1/25, 10:30am: The BOL Sophos update servers are currently experiencing problems. Clients attempting to update the Sophos client on their computers are receiving a Could not contact server error. The CTS Campus Systems Group is currently looking into the problem. We expect the issue to be resolved soon.


In order to resolve some issues related to the server that provides Sophos Anti-Virus updates to UCLA clients, the CTS Campus Systems Group will be performing maintenance on Thursday, January 25, 2007, from 6:00am through 7:00am. During this maintenance, clients will not be able to update their virus definitions. Once the server in question is brought back online, clients will be able to resume updating.
