7/11/2005: Fake Account Warning Message from UCLA Support Team
If you receive an email that appears to originate from the UCLA Support Team that contains an attachment, do not open it. Please DELETE this email. This is an attempt to infect your machine with the Mytob worm. The body of the message is similar to this:
Dear UCLA Member
Your e-mail account was used to send a huge amount of unsolicited spam messages during the recent week. If you could please take 5-10 minutes out of your online experience and confirm the attached document so you will not run into any future problems with the online service.
If you choose to ignore our request, you leave us no choice but to cancel your membership.
Virtually yours, The UCLA Support Team.
This email does NOT originate from Bruin OnLine. Do NOT open the attachment. Viruses and phishing attempts such as this are usually easy to spot by the improper use of English and by the overall generic nature of the salutation, closing, and signature. BOL rarely sends email directly to users unless it is in response to a user email for support or as an announcement related to our service upgrades. BOL will also never send file attachments through email. Users who keep their anti-virus application up-to-date should be protected.
If you have any questions please contact the BOL Help Desk at (310)267-4357, option 1, or at consult@ucla.edu.
