12/11/03: SMTP.UCLA.EDU disallowed to BOL Modem Pool

As of Saturday, December 13, BOL modem pool users will not be authorized to use smtp.ucla.edu as their outgoing SMTP mail server to send out their email. As a security measure against spam, emails from BOL modem pool users must be sent via the mail.ucla.edu SMTP server using authentication.

Those using smtp.ucla.edu will receive the error:

  • error 550: access denied; please use mail.ucla.edu

Users will need to update their SMTP settings to use mail.ucla.edu with authentication.
