11/18/02: Spam Identification Service
Effective November 18, 2002 a new spam identification service has been implemented on BOL that will help BOL users identify unsolicited commercial email (UCE) messages, commonly called "spam". This new service is being provided in response to the many BOL users who have been experiencing a tremendous increase in spam email in the past few months.
The spam identification service is provided via a software solution called SpamAssassin, which uses an array of spam identification rules to identify and tag spam via the addition of an extra header. You will be able to filter your email based on this header, and decide what your email program will do with mail tagged as spam (delete, move to spam folder, put in trash, etc.). This method of spam identification works best for POP email users by allowing the creation of filters to sort identified spam into a separate folder for further action. The current BOL Webmail program does not support filtering.
