04/25/2002: BOL Email Upgrade Status
Dear Bruin OnLine Users,
On April 19, 2002, BOL successfully completed its planned upgrade. BOL has now closed its off-campus e-mail relay and implemented authentication, a security method that requires a valid BOL ID and password to send e-mail from off-campus.
As a result of the upgrade, BOL was removed from the Mail Abuse Prevention System Relay Spam Stopper (MAPS RSS) list. Inclusion on the list caused some e-mails sent from off-campus to be rejected by e-mail servers that subscribe to the MAPS RSS list. Removal from the list means that users should no longer experience any automatic rejection of their outgoing BOL e-mail.
As a reminder, BOL users who send e-mail from off-campus locations using local Internet Service Providers (ISPs) must change their off-campus e-mail configuration settings *immediately*. Visit www.bol.ucla.edu and click on the "BOL Upgrade" box for instructions.
If you have any questions regarding the upgrade, please visit www.bol.ucla.edu, call the BOL Help Desk at 310-825-7452, option 1, or send e-mail to consult@ucla.edu.
Thank you,
BOL Help Desk
