------------------------------

In an effort to improve Bruin OnLine (BOL) dial-in service, UCLA
Communications Technology Services (CTS) has consolidated its modem pools
and increased the number of modems available to dial-in users. As a
result, BOL subscribers who currently dial in to the Expanded Modem Pool,
at (310) 246-1373, will need to change their dialer to the Regular Modem
Pool telephone number by Wednesday, November 15, 2000.

With the consolidation and the overall 14% increase in modems, BOL users
have two options for reliable dial-in access to E-mail, the Internet, and
UCLA computing resources:

--The Regular Modem Pool, at (310) 206-8311, supports the V.90 protocol
(for up to 56k connection speeds) with up to four hours of dial-in access
per session.

--The Express Modem Pool, at (310) 825-9944, continues to support the V.34
protocol and provides 20-minute dial-in sessions, great for checking
E-mail or short Internet sessions.

After November 15, 2000, the Expanded Modem Pool, at (310) 246-1373, will
NO LONGER BE AVAILABLE.

If you currently use the Expanded Modem Pool, we strongly urge you to
switch to the Regular Modem Pool as soon as possible. If you are not
dialing into the Expanded Modem Pool at all, you do not need to make any
changes to your current configuration.

If you are using a v.90 modem, please ensure that you are using the latest
drivers and firmware for your modem prior to changing dial-in numbers.
You may obtain the drivers and firmware for your modem from the modem
manufacturer's website, or by contacting the vendor of your computer.
