The UCLA Faculty Women's Club gratefully accepts memorial donations to its Scholarship Fund on an ongoing basis. Memorial donations are deposited in the UCLA Foundation and the interest is used for the FWC scholarship awards. For more information about FWC Scholarships, please see Scholarships. PHYLLIS GOLDSTEIN
Phyllis Goldstein passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 5, 2008. A memorial service was held for her on Friday, April 11, 2008, at Hillside Memorial Park.
Phyllis was an active member of the UCLA Faculty Women’s Club, especially in the Let's Do Lunch, Birthday Club, and Galleries and Sights sections and she will be fondly missed. Her husband, Howard Goldstein, MD, preceded her in death. She is survived by a daughter, Jenette, and son, Jeffrey, and five grandchildren.
MARGARET JEAN ROSS
FWC is sad to learn than long time member Margaret Ross passed away on March 18,
2008. Margaret was a beloved member of the International Cooking section for
many years and often attended the FWC General Meetings. Below is the
obituary from the Los Angeles Times March 29th issue:
Margaret Jean Ross
ROSS, Margaret Jean Born Aug. 23, 1933 in England, Margaret died at her home in
Los Angeles on March 18th. She is survived by her husband of 53 years and by her
daughter, son, grandson and brother. She was known for her 30 years of
enthusiastic support of the LA Philharmonic Orchestra as a member and
past-president of the Westside committee. She actively supported the Symphonies
for Youth and Symphonies for Schools programs and was a prime mover in setting
up the Affiliates-at-Large organization. Margaret also had strong ties to UCLA
and was involved in many projects including UCLA patients library and student
scholarships as a member of Faculty Women's Club and Medical Faculty Wives. She
was a woman of elegance, poise, grace, dignity and courage. She will be forever
cherished by her family and friends to whom she gave so much. A memorial service
will be held at St. Albans Church Westwood on April 29th at 11 a.m.
